Two Day Coma, We are Parkas and Cold Stone live in New Cross
Gotobeat is excited to team up with The Amersham Arms to welcome an exceptional lineup on Saturday, December 12th.
TWO DAY COMA – Two Day Coma’s foundation started with childhood friends Tom Harris and Jake Scarborough. When Tom’s stark, honest songwriting style met Jake’s knack for DIY recording the pair began making bedroom demos that aimed higher than their makeshift studio. When the two met multi-instrumentalist Ollie Lucas and the drummer Zac Harkavy the band was complete. Taking influence everywhere from britpop and indie to grunge and folk, the Bristol based four-piece have managed to find an emotive sound that is truly original. Since their first release back in 2017, Two Day Coma have earned the support of BBC Introducing and BBC 6 Music’s Tom Robinson among others. The band’s 2019 single ‘Shudder’ was featured as Clash Magazine’s Track of the Day and was selected by Spotify for a number of their playlists including The Indie Lists ‘Best Of 2019’.
WE ARE PARKAS – We Are Parkas are the grit, guts, and passion that is missing from modern-day indie music.
Matt Banks (vocals), Owen Stephens (guitar), George Hopkins (bass) and Joe Strauss (drums) have been writing and gigging constantly since 2015, perfecting their arena-sized sound and firmly establishing themselves as the South West’s most exciting prospect in indie rock.
They take inspiration from the greats. Namely the Arctic Monkeys, The Jam, The Strokes, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and others of a similar vein. With towering riffs, soaring melodies, and palpable charisma their live show is a refreshing injection of pure solid energy. It must be seen to be believed.
‘Incredible lyrics. Ridiculously talented. A brilliant brilliant British indie rock band’ – Adam Crowther, BBC Radio Bristol.
‘We Are Parkas are one of Bristol’s most promising bands. Convicting, intense and uptight indie delivered with a Gallagher swagger and lashings of rock and roll like it should be.’ – Reuben Myles, RMT Productions.”
COLD STONE – Formed in 2015, Brighton via Bristol based Stone Cold Fiction have toured the UK and performed at notable festivals including Isle Of Wight, BBC 6 Music Festival and Dot to Dot. They have also played support slots for IDLES, Demob Happy and Cleopatrick. In 2018, the band worked with producer Marc Jones (Band Of Skulls, The Heavy) on a string of singles. The release of ‘Two Step’ and ‘Closet Psycho’ saw the band headline multiple tours of the UK, as well as Conges Annules Festival in Luxembourg. The last of the three singles ‘Drip’ was released in January 2019, closely followed by more shows, including a sold out performance in Amsterdam. After recording and releasing the three singles, Matt, Alex and Stephen were ready to push their experimentation to new limits. The context of an LP allowed them new terrain on which to do this. Experimentation with ambience, groove, structure and time-signatures were to lay the foundation for their debut album. ‘Strange Times’ absolutely embodies the Psych-Rock experimentation and DIY approach that has come to define the band through its formative years. It began as a collection of musical sketches conceived by the band following their previous efforts and showcases various departures from their typical sound. Produced by Reuben Tyghe and working again with engineer Marc Jones, the songs were recorded live with minimal overdubs and additions to the mix. At its most progressive the LP presents 10 minute soundscape ‘Landscape’ and Darkly-Ambient 7 minute ‘Avoiding In A Way’; and at its most concise, provides the forward-moving groove of ‘CCTV’ which premiered on BBC Introducing in the West and was quickly made BBC Radio Bristol’s track of the week. More Fuzz labeled the album “a really addictive album, 8 tracks combining modern alternative and neo-psychedelic approach to blues licks and heavy atmosphere.”
