PUNKBAND – “No one’s got any spirit these days,” says Punkband frontman Toby Ergatoudis. “There just aren’t enough people who don’t give a f*** about anything any more. There’s too much politics behind music now. We just want people to come to our gigs, no matter what you believe in, and just get f***ed up, go mental, and get some release from the 9-5 crap.
”There you go. What else do you need to know about Punkband? Well, they’re a London two-piece formed out of sheer “boredom with the state of music at the moment” and they “don’t care about much, except having a good time”.They settled on their name because every other suggestion seemed “pretentious and convoluted” and their ambition is to “be the biggest band ever” or “just go back to working in Tesco”
STEPBROTHER – Ten formative years have nourished the tastes and talents of Ladbroke Grove four-piece, Stepbrother. Navigating their youth together, from Brit School and beyond, they collectively take cues from the lyrical density mastered by artists like James Blake and Thom Yorke and the jagged, matter of fact mentality of David Byrne. Their debut album, Don’t Frighten the Horses, is a sonic exultation of its own. An endearing and sumptuous listen, it progresses through tales of love and loss, welcoming in catharsis and self-acceptance, serving as a stamped marker on teen existence and a taste and texture of the waters they can shore. Beautiful things are happening.
